Neon Snake
Guide a growing neon snake through twelve escalating mazes and chase high-score combos.
Neon Snake
Snake on a 31 by 15 grid, split into twelve mazes. Each level needs a set number of apples, from 8 on level 1 to 15 on level 12. The outer edge is a wall from the start, there is no wrapping, and you get one life: hit a wall, an obstacle or your own body and the run is over.
Twelve mazes
Each level resets the snake to length 3 on the middle left, waiting for your first direction. What gets harder is speed and layout. Level 1 moves one cell every 0.17 seconds; level 12 starts at 0.09 and tightens to 0.072, with each apple shaving a little off. Level 11 is four long bars that force a zigzag, and level 12 has a central room with a two-cell doorway where apples can appear. Apples only spawn where the snake can reach.
Scoring
An apple is 100 points and a golden apple 500, times a combo multiplier. Eat again within 4 seconds and the combo continues: the 4th in a row pays double, the 7th triple, the 10th four times, the 13th and later five times. A longer gap or a new level resets it. A golden apple appears with the new apple after your 4th, 8th and 12th apple of a level, unless one is still on the board, and shrinks away over 6 seconds. It grows you but does not count toward the target.
The big numbers are clear bonuses: 15,000 for level 1, rising by 3,000 per level to 48,000, plus 60,000 for clearing all twelve. Everything you can collect inside a level adds up to less than that level's bonus, so one more level is worth more than any combo. Never risk a crash for a golden apple. Combos get easier as you speed up: at level 1 speed, 4 seconds covers about 24 cells, less than the board's width.
Hard
Same mazes plus two-cell blocks, 9 on level 1 and up to 17 later, in fixed spots that never block the start lane or seal off space. The snake starts about 1.82 times as fast, each apple speeds it up twice as much, and golden apples last 3.3 seconds. Each difficulty has its own leaderboard.
Controls
- ←/→/↑/↓ or W/A/S/D to turn; swipe with touch or mouse
- Esc pauses, Q while paused quits without a record
- M sound, E visual effects
Reversing is ignored and two turns are buffered per step, so quick double turns register. The cell your tail is leaving is safe to enter. Scores rank highest first, and your best score, level and length on this device appear on the start screen.
