Neon Minesweeper

Clear three classic minefields with safe first clicks, chord actions, and full keyboard control.

Neon Minesweeper

Minesweeper with the three classic board sizes, timed to the hundredth of a second. Your first click always opens an empty area, you can clear around a number in one move by pressing it again or by pressing both mouse buttons, and the whole game can be finished from the keyboard alone.

Three boards

Easy is 9 by 9 with 10 mines, Normal is 16 by 16 with 40, and Hard is 30 by 16 with 99. That is one mine in about eight cells, six and a half, and five. Hard is tough less because the board is wide and more because the mines are packed much tighter. Each difficulty has its own leaderboard.

How a game goes

Mines are laid at the moment you open your first cell, and that cell plus its eight neighbours are kept clear. So the first click is always a blank that cascades open, and the timer starts right then. A number tells you how many of the eight surrounding cells hold mines, and opening a blank opens every connected blank along with the numbers on its edge.

You win when every safe cell is open. Flags are not required; you can win without placing one, and any mines still unflagged get flagged for you when you win. Opening a mine ends the run and shows the remaining mines and any wrong flags. The mine counter in the top left is just total mines minus the flags you have placed, so it never tells you whether a flag is correct.

Once a number has that many flags around it, pressing the number again opens all its other neighbours at once. With too few or too many flags nothing happens, but if one of those flags is wrong, you hit a mine.

Getting faster

Only cleared boards post a time, and shorter is better. Lost runs submit nothing. Pausing hides the board but does not stop the clock, so on a run you care about, keep going.

Flags cost a click too. Place them only where you plan to clear around a number, and open cells you know are safe directly. Boards are random and are not checked for being solvable by logic alone, so on Hard you will eventually have to guess. When a guess is unavoidable, make it early rather than late.

Mouse, touch and keyboard

Click or tap to open a cell. Right-click or hold for 0.32 seconds to place or remove a flag. On a phone, the flag mode button below the board turns taps into flags. To clear around a number, press it again, or press both buttons on it and release. Dragging off the cell before releasing cancels that move.

On the keyboard, ←/→/↑/↓ move the cyan cursor, Enter or Space opens and F flags. The cursor wraps from one edge to the other. Esc pauses, Q while paused leaves to the menu without a result, S toggles sound and E toggles motion effects. The difficulty cards on the start screen show your best time for each level on this device.
